Executive Summary:

Signum designed a slatwall display for Ace Hardware, the world’s largest hardware retail cooperative. The company sought to increase sales of kitchen and bath fixtures, and to optimize floor space.

Our solution was a display which included LED lighting, a graphic header, and faucets mounted on pods built in-house. Sales were bolstered, and ACE Hardware realized a return on their investment within 6 months of implementation.

Opportunity

Productivity from the kitchen & bath aisles was not meeting expectations. Existing displays in retail locations were old and dated, and did not allow for flexibility of SKUs. Active SKUs were limited in both the overall number and variety.

Introducing a complete design refresh was in order. The requirements included a clean, contemporary look, added flexibility, and an increased amount of SKUs merchandised.

Signum Solution

Signum designed a custom, contemporary display system, which hung off the existing store fixture for easy installation. Time and monetary savings related to install and store personal were also realized when Signum pre-mounted faucets on pods to be shipped with the display.

This new display featured lighting, glamour shots, and a belly beam extrusion with graphic channel for supporting graphics or product information. The LED down lighting in the upgraded header system brightened the display area and showcased products in the most flattering light.

Results

The new display created a flexible space where kitchen and bath fixtures were more effectively showcased. This allowed Ace Hardware to carry more SKUs, in an environment where customers could more easily view products. The following was achieved within the first few months:

  • Stores using this display average a sales lift of 34% year over year versus stores without the display.

  • Stores achieved a six month return on their investment.

  • 60% more SKUs were added in the same amount of space due to increased flexibility in merchandising.
